For too long we have remained in Gibraltar. Nevertheless, we have spent a good time and our weather vane (the third man or woman on board) is installed and ready for use. The wind generator is operational at the mizzen mast and connected to the batteries.
We are waiting for suitable conditions, agree wind, tidal and wave forecast should.
On Friday 13th November! it is ready. At 8.00 clock at dawn we weigh anchor in La Linea and make our journey through the streets.
A slight wind is blowing against us, for it sets the current with us. We travel between the many cargo ships, which are usually anchored by, and turn into the Strait of Gibraltar. At 9.00 clock we set sail, the wind is still a bit weak and we let the engine run along. Soon the wind picks up and we are progressing apace without Moterenunterstützung. There are 40 nautical miles to Barbate. With aft winds to 25 knots (the weather forecast had predicted only 8 knots), we can show up before the wind. For a long time, the power of up to 1.5 knots with us and so we rush into the Atlantic. To Tarifa we foresee simmering water, the waves are reflected back and forth. Yes, now we are just still in the counterflow, which slowed our drive up to 3 knots. We knew this, but have not yet moved our departure time, because we did not sail during the night (because the electricity would have been favorable) through the Strait of Gibraltar.
At about 17.30 clock, we put in at the marina in Barbate. Our first trip in the Atlantic was a great experience.
Barbate is a small lively Spanish town. We like it a lot, because it has large natural reserves around. This we ask at once on Sunday and make our folding bikes with a larger mountain tour up and down through a beautiful pine forest and deserted agricultural areas. Our goal is the Faro (lighthouse) from Trafalgar. 1805 was held at this place the famous battle between the French, Spanish and English. Unfortunately, there were many deaths and injuries reported to well-known English captain Nelson lost his life here.
In the evening we come up with an aching backside, but with lots of fantastic impressions of nature, about 30 km, again in our Whisper. Finally, we could once again experience nature at its best!
In the next few days, we would like the nearby river delta, which is regarded as a bird paradise ausundschaften, and will also take an excursion by bus to Cadiz.
Then we wait for good weather for a night trip to the 150 nautical miles off to sail Morocco.
